Es Caló, Formentera, Balearic Islands – Spain

The house responds to a multipurpose program of a second residence, prioritizing functionality and the obligation to use the typical elements of the Balearic vernacular architecture. The project is developed in a single volume of a plant with passable flat roof and a clear separation between the night zone and the open day area and distributed on several levels.

The access and exit porches to the back garden from the living space favor the interior-exterior relationship. The facades are made up of holes of rectangular proportion, the voids of the shadow spaces as well as the stairs to climb to the roof and access the lower levels of the garden from the back porch. The finish of the facade as in the traditional architecture of the island is based on white lime, dry stone is used in the urbanization of the plot, the enclosures and wooden beams seen and stubble pavement on all floors. The bathrooms have deep yellow hydraulic tiling. In all rooms of the house it is decided to carry out most of the furniture, integrating it into the volumetry of the different spaces.
