Badalona, Barcelona – Spain
The commission consists of the conversion of a single-family house in land between medians in a consolidated urban environment of traditional expansion in a multi-family building with two apartments. The project involves the demolition of the existing two-story house and the development of a more complex residential program on a small plot of land. The two houses occupy the ground floor plus two floors, each one allocating a complete floor and half of the intermediate one, in this way through houses are achieved, ventilating both facades, dispensing with interior courtyards. In the centre of the plant are grouped services and vertical access cores, both common and internal of each residence. As outdoor spaces, the ground floor apartment enjoys the use of the backyard, while the upper one has access to a covered ground floor terrace.
The facade is composed using the elements of traditional architecture in the area: holes in the enclosure wall, blinds with adjustable slats, in this case, aluminium and roller shutters and balconies with blacksmith rail. The finish of the facades to the street and to the backyard is solved by a two-leaf wall and air chamber with a white brick of the Thoro house on the outside. The lower part of the street façade is placated with grey stone, with the intention of protecting the white view from dirt.
